As a technology, blockchain, or distributed \nledgers, have been around for over a decade, but it is only recently \nthat blockchain uses beyond cryptocurrencies have been contemplated. \nNow, however, Ohio state and local governments are\n taking an interest in blockchain and how the technology might be \nleveraged within the public sector. Legislators are proposing changes \nto the law to allow for the use of blockchain, and technology companies \nare rapidly getting into the game. In this fast-paced\n move toward the adoption of blockchain technology, records managers and\n archivists cannot afford to not be a part of the crucial conversations \nbecause they don\u2019t understand the technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The OhioERC Blockchain subcommittee is working \ntoward a number of guidelines to demystify blockchain technology. This \nfirst document, Blockchain Basics, is intended to be a high-level \ndescription of the most common blockchain concepts\n and terminology. The guideline does not attempt to argue for or \nagainst the use of blockchain, as there are many variables that come \ninto play. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
